They played in the garden til it was dusk
His cheek was sprinkled with bits of the brown
Her hair had absorbed the flowery musk
The crickets were chirping – the only sound
He looked up at her with crystal blue eyes glowing
Raised one eyebrow and glanced over towards the slide
She had risen without even knowing
He rose in unison and nearly cried
“I will get there first” but he had refrained
As though she hadn’t known they were racing!
Her blond locks blew through her eyes unrestrained
Up up the slide, at the top embracing
Down they went, their blue eyes laughing in sync
Down through childhood in just an eye’s blink
