The troll rubbed his hands together in rapture
Glanced to his left, to his right – all clear
Furtive, although he knew they’d never capture..
“No one in the world could guess I was here!”
He dropped to his knees, crawled under the gate
His red hair scraping dry across the stone
Could he turn back or was he impelled by fate?
He smiled in answer and his eyes shone
Once inside, silence overtook the air
And for a moment, he was paralyzed
There wasn't a threat – threat was everywhere
“I will probably die here,” he realized
He laughed at himself, throat shaking with spite
As he raced forward into the tunnel’s night
